This jump was constructed in the summer of 1954. The event was sponsored by the Norge Ski Club, based in the northwest Chicago suburb of Fox River Grove. It was erected by Gilco Scaffolding of Des Plaines. The surface was shaved or crushed ice.
The Norge Ski Club is still based in Fox River Grove, with a state-of-the-art 70 meter jump, and three or four smaller junior jumps that were reconstructed prior to the 2009 season. More about the club at http://www.norgeskiclub.com; more on ski jumping at http://www.skijumpingusa.com.
This is not an actual photo. The crowd is real but not the jump. It was super imposed to make a poster to promote the ski meet held in August. Unfortunately, because of high winds and a very shaky scaffold, only 3 skiers actually rode the actual jump and then the start was lowered quite a bit.
