  1. Drujon Says:

Sure this is from the 70s? That’s a 1970 Buick Riviera in clay, which would make it the late 60s.

  2. vtecdaddy2000 Says:

That is definitely a ‘66 Riv on the left side and a ‘66 Olds Toronado on the right and a Chevelle off to the far right.

  3. rick wurtz Says:

the PASSENGER side is a Riviera, but look closely: isn’t the driver’s side a ‘66 or ‘67 Toronado? The cars did share parts of their platforms, though one was front-drive and one was rear-drive. And didn’t the Riv go over to that body style before ‘70? I thought the first-gen ones were only ‘63-’65, which would make this even earlier, more like mid ’60s…

  4. rick wurtz Says:

Oh, and the cars in the background… the nearer one sure looks a lot like a ‘65 or ‘66 fullsize Chevy, while the farther one… dunno, maybe fullsize Chevy also, maybe Chevelle?

  5. David J. Erazo Says:

This is Terrific. Look at the amount of activity in this Big room! The main car is a1966 Buick Riviera, with an alternate front end of a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. This makes sense as they both shared 119″ wheelbases and main bodies, with the major difference being the Riv. was rear wheel drive while the Toro. was front wheel drive. Since the Toronado was a big departure for GM, this was probably a highly secure area, though we do see a Chevrolet Malibu 4 door next to our main car. In the background can be seen a more advanced study which appears to be a 1968 Chevrolet Malibu. The man at work in the foreground, the open case in front of the car, the scope of the shot showing the natural light coming through the tall curtains and the mass of lights at the ceiling make this one of the best photos featured. This was the 1st year Toronado, the cleanest Design of all, and it went on to win Motor Trends Car of the Year award. This shot was probably taken in late 1964 and no later.

You are all absolutely right - I’ve clearly got the date wrong on this, have changed it to the 60s.

  7. ak Says:

i’ve used this object heheh. i work in gm designs studios now. this picture was taken of a second floor studio at the gm tech center. first floor studios don’t have the angled ceilings. its hard to tell which studio or even which side of the building this is on (north or south) without the outside scenery for reference. regardless the studios aren’t too much different today. motorized roll up blinds instead of drapes, no drawing boards or typewriters, just cubicles of designers, computer sculptors and engineers along the windows on their computers and models down the center of the room only. also, the dress code is a bit more colorful and casual than it was back in the day

  8. vogue models Says:

is that car made out of play clay

  9. jj Says:

shadows on the walls, I’d say south side of the building ;)

  10. BELLCORD Says:

” PICTURED HERE, A YOUNG BOB LUTZ TURNS THE GM CORPORATE WORLD ON IT’S EAR WITH HIS ‘WACKY SHORT SLEEVES’ IDEA…..

  11. Uncle B Says:

Copy and save this piece of memorabilia for “the way we were” files, to be displayed on corners of the net for an eternity, post (GRD) great republican depression. GM, now on welfare, and soon to be defunct, a victim of it’s own inability to change with the times, mired in 1930’s corporate philosophies and constipated with group-think is a prime example of the “who, why, when, where and how” of the failure of corporations and capitalism itself in the modern age! Kaiser, Studebaker, Packard, and on and on the list grows, all the same fates, all the same reasons! Are we watching the demise of the great American empire itself? If not, we are certainly witnessing the rise of Asian influence in the world, and in this shadow, the GRD grows.
