We used these on the aircraft carriers I was on…(Kitty Hawk, Constellation). Back in the day,(1970’s) all the carriers had them. You’d send out the little tubes ( bunny tubes, they were called) with notes and messages inside. Slip the bunny tube inside the big brass tube, shut the little valve at the bottom and hold it, and air pressure would send the bunny rocketing off on its merry way. It was obvious when you had a bunny tube coming to you….the pneumatic tube would spit out a little air and you could hear the bunny coming. We had a big box filled with pillows for the bunny tube to slam into. If you didn’t, or the bunny tube missed the box, the damn thing would bounce around the room like taking a full swing at a golf ball in a bathroom.
