A variety of star modern architects like Steven Holl and Aldo Rossi worked on the model town of Seaside in Florida. Like the name, the result is bland and derivative, the perfect example of how aiming for just "nice" is not always a good thing. The very mediocrity of Seaside made it the perfect setting for the flawed utopia of the Truman show.

Seaside is actually a very nice place to visit. True is it is really doesn’t feel real but, hey, its vacation, not real life. Some cool (read: overpriced) toy stores and art supply stores. Little sandwich shops, coffee, boutiques, etc make for a nice walk around. There are also some pretty fun little awning fronted shops/tents section that has a cafe type spot that has fried pickles! Staying there is a bit absurd but we typically drive over for a day or afternoon when we stay someone close on the coast. Incidentally the designers of Seaside were rumored to have worked the layout for a neighborhood where I live called Westhaven (http://www.westhaventn.com/). It really is a beautiful neighborhood, but I don’t know that I would want to live there… feels a bit like a move set ;-)
