The site of the country's largest abandoned subway tunnel. The subway was built and never used, no track was laid and no subway cars were ordered. No passengers ever rode between the six stations that were built.

The cinci underground subway is amazing. I’ve spent some time down there not-so-legally and it’s really a trip to explore. Plenty of excellent graffiti down there now as well.

I was aware of the abandoned subway. But Cincinnati did away with 2 Inclines (Mt. Adams) and Price Hill. Streetcars would pull onto Incline and ride to top. Wonderful! Also before my time, about 100 or so years ago, Central Parkway had a Canal running down it’s center.I suppose the mosquitos were a problem. Under Central Parkway, the Subway was constructed after the water was gone. I Think there were several stops planned along the route, however ,the Project was never finished, and no subway cars ever ran. We also had streetcars until the early 50″s that wound up their brakes by the motorman turning s big crank next to where he was sitting. As Cinti is built on 7 hills the Streetcars were similar to SanFrancisco’s. Though not open sided. Early 49-50’s came the Trolley busses on the Streetcar lines as they could use the trolley”s. Regular busses ran the rest of the lines.. The Streetcars with wicker seats were “fun” If only Cincinnati had the foresight to preserve some of these wonderful treasures.
