I have a 3G iPod (described here as the dock connector model) and love it.
Unlike all other versions of iPod, which have a more matte surface that collects dust and dirt, this has a more gloss surface and the menu scroll area attracts almost no dirt at all.
My 4 year old 3G iPod is cleaner and more new looking that many of my friends 6 months old iPods, simply because of that division between the row of buttons and the scroll wheel (it only became the clickwheel with 4G).

To say this model is one of the worst Apple products seems a bit harsh. I think this was an evolutionary step in the iPod design. What you fail to mention is that this was the first version of the iPod with the touch sensitive scroll wheel. It’s likely Apple did this to highlight the scrollwheel and to make consumers familiar with the technology- then integrated the buttons later once they understood it.

I wouldn’t say this is the worst design but it did definitely suck. This was my first iPod and probably the only device I’ve ever used that had touch sensitive buttons that were too sensitive and not sensitive enough at the same time.
Too many times I didn’t even have to actually touch the buttons for them to react. Other times not even mashing down on them would get a reaction.
Oh, and it was ugly. When it was introduced, I actually thought that someone at Apple had gotten lazy for making the machine look like any other media player with that terrible row of buttons.

I too have one of these ,four year on and still going ! Many of my friends have bought the more up to date versions , and all have had some form of problem or crashes ?!?!? I have had none. Looks a bit clunking next to the more modern ones , but hey so what , it works!
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:42 pm
I’ve always thought this was the best looking iPod. I remember when the clickwheel came out everyone was complaining.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:45 pm
@jrose:
This is actually the second model made with a touch sensitive wheel. The previous model that had click buttons surrounding the wheel and originally shipped with a moving scroll wheel was shipped in 10 and 20gb capacities as a touch wheel.
1G = 5gb / 10gb scroll wheel
2G = 10gb / 20gb touch wheel
3G = 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 touch wheel with touch buttons.
4G = 20, 30, 40, 60 click wheel, photo, color, b/w
5G, 5.5G = video
6G = classic

I love this product, after 4 years its still working. I only have 1 problem, and that is the battery life. It only last about 3 hours.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Still have one, still works great.
October 22nd, 2007 at 1:41 pm
I have one of these. I had its battery replaced a while ago, but it works perfectly. I actually prefer this design to the ‘clickwheel’ that came after this model. The clicking feels so… idiotic after owning this model.
October 22nd, 2007 at 2:31 pm
I have one of these, the 15 GB version. I’ve had it for over 4 years now and the only complaint I have is the battery life, and I still use it because the 80 GB 5.5G iPod I got for $150 when I bought my new MacBook Pro is so annoying to use. I hate the clicking, and with the 3G, you could even turn off the clicking noise completely.
October 22nd, 2007 at 8:41 pm
I had one of these, I actually liked it’s operation better than the newer “click wheel” model that I got to replace it. The only reason I had to replace it - like an idiot I left the iPod sitting in plain sight inside my car when I dropped the car off at the dealer for a service. When I got over my shame at being such a dope and finally decided to get a new iPod, I was disappointed to find the “click” wheel model seemed cheaper to the touch and more awkward to operate.

You gotta be kidding me! Granted, it’s not the absolute best in terms of navigation, but the “no moving parts on the interface” bit sold me. Like others posting here, I am not crazy about the scroll wheel on current iPods. What’s more, we can expect the iPod touch to gain more traction once scientists and engineers figure out how to utilize larger flash memory in the neighborhood of 20-60 gigabytes. That’s what I’m waiting for. As for my 3G, after a battery replacement it has excellent battery life (about a week) and I’ve stuffed the hard drive full. It’s a keeper . . that is until I can jam my library into a future iPod Touch-like model.

i happen to like this iPod’s control style better than any other non-touchscreen MP3 player in the world. my first iPod was one of those, and i still prefer it over the iPod classic. i remember when the mini first came out, i looked at it, i was like “the menu buttons and all those buttons don’t have a light behind them? this new click wheel is dumb.” and since then i’ve loved the G3 iPod and hated click-wheel.
April 4th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I have one of these, and have put hours and hours and hours on it DJ’ing in bars. The row of buttons make it much better for DJ’ing than a clickwheel.
July 4th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
I own this still and albeit lacking a color screen I would still use it if my battery hadn’t crapped out. Best feature = lighted buttons. If they could incorporate that into the click wheel I would have been a lot happier…

still have one, still works great even after all these years, with original battery. Still not complaining :-) When the battery dies I will replace the HD with a solid state one (like Marks from geektechnique.org) and simply give it a new battery and it will probably last even longer than any newer model!
January 3rd, 2009 at 8:13 am
Actually, I bought my wife one of these at the same time I bought the emac.. the salesman gave me deal i couldnt put down. My wife used it untill this year, due to the battery, I bought her a new nano (pink..hehe) and I ended up using the Ipod as a harddrive (take your os with you!) and my wife misses the fact that the Ipod is firewire, where as the nano is usb.. Only complaint.. great litte toy other wise.

I have had one a 10Gb version of this iPod since December of 2003 and it has served me faithfully. It has never crashed and I have used it on 40 or more international flights. This was in fact one of Apple’s GREATEST products. This article=fail!

Понятно что, секс с блядью - наиболее легкое и не самое дорогое устранение комплекса заниженой сексуальности. А секс, который делают Девченки Киева - поистине различны не только в плане цены, но и в плане предоставления таких услуг, как минета.
