When the aluminum slab style keyboard design was leaked, the rumor is that the shit hit the proverbial fan at Apple HQ, because its design hinted at what is to come.

Our guess is that the stunning new Apple wireless keyboards may give a clue as to the possible tablet/mini laptops which may come out in early 2008.

If we are right, then its the side profile that possibly shows how a late 90s Sony Vaio style circular battery and 360 degree screen rotation could allow for a tablet/laptop hybrid.

I have this and use it. Works fine on connecting to my laptop at times when i don’t want t use the laptops keyboard. But when connecting to my PC, does not recognise a number of button combis, such as control alt delete. Also the spacing of the keys are a bit too close for me, and I don’t have large hands.
    Best, Andrew

I was a major skeptic when I first saw this keyboard at the Apple store. I ordered one anyway, simply because it was wireless — and then disliked it the first day I used it.

But now it’s grown on me. It’s beautiful. The compact size used to feel cramped, but now it feels like everything is within easy reach. I don’t miss the numeric keypad like I thought I would. I do miss having a second delete button (one deleting forward, the other backward), but that’s no major loss. I wish the keyboard lay flat — forward-tilting keyboards are for people who don’t know how to type and have to look at the keys — but at least the tilt’s not that steep.

    A great product — one I didn’t know I would love.

  3. Mark Says:

I’m using the wired version on my MacPro desktop. I really like the feel and responsiveness of the keyboard. Ended up buying another one for my home G5.

  4. Andrew Lee Says:

Andrew Lee - The keyboard probably needs drivers on windows to work correctly. It works great in Boot camp on mac but that is probably because of the macwindows drivers..

I love this keyboard. Simple and elegant.

  5. Brendan Says:

I owned the wired version, and since I bought my new 24″ iMac I decided to give this wireless version a shot. I like most that it’s very neat and tidy, and if I’m eating a snack and drinking some tea or coffee at my desk I can slip it out of the way and have what seems like an empty desk, very handy. Also it seems to have some strange powers for conserving battery-like, I’ve been using it for over three weeks now and my batteries are still at 3/5’s their full power. Typing on it is actually quite comfortable, and once I got used to it I can now fly on it - way faster then Apple’s old keyboards. As a bonus it looks very sexy too, and the media controls are nice. I don’t use my remote anymore.

If I have to be nit-picky I’d say the too main problems I have with it are the fact that the cursor keys are a tad too small (though useable), and I would have given F5 & F6 special functions too, namely full and partial screenshot buttons, and little icons to represent such controls.

When all is said and done, I do like the keyboard very much though. And I never said that about Apple’s old keyboards, or certainly not the abomination that is the Mighty Mouse - so you can stick those fanboy comments where the sun don’t shine people.

  6. M Says:

I also have the wired version and it’s the best keyboard I’ve ever used. And I’ve used quite a few. I must say it’s everything the supermouse isn’t. Only complaint: keypad numbers aren’t working in Fedora 8 (wonder what the chances are of Apple releasing a Linux driver?) Keyboard numbers and everything else works fine, very pleased with my purchase. ~M

  7. Karelia Says:

    @ Andrew Lee:

Try using Ctrl-Alt-fn-Backspace. Since the wireless version doesn’t have a button Windows recognizes as “delete”, if you use fn-Backspace, it will use the Backspace key as a “Delete”.

PS: Before I get called on it, I know Apple keyboards don’t really have a “Backspace” key, but I called it that for clarity.

  8. Nathan Says:

I tried this keyboard at FutureShop. Personally, I can’t stand it (or any Apple keyboard for that matter). The click response just isn’t there and button travel is way too low. I much prefer my IBM SpaceSaver.

  9. Joe Says:

I have one of these and it is very nice. I have big hands and I like smalller keyboards like 88-96% size Laptop type. Out of the box this has worked fine for me on a couple of PC’s,the problem I have is none of the Fn combos work, basicly the Fn key does not seem to work. By default my delete key is backspace and all of my funtion keys act as they should. Not a big deal but I’d love to gain the functionality for volume control, ect. It is funny how people are about keyboards, but I’ll say this is one darn nice keyboard. I don’t care what any one says. Besides most IBM type keyboards keys have way too much travel, not so good.

  10. Jack Says:

This same keyboard is on my MacBook, I am so used to it, and fast with it, that I bought another one for my PC. Seems to work fine with XPx64 and Vista Ultimate x64. The Apple button acts as the start button. Pretty good keyboard. The spacing is perfect for me, i have large hands, but skinny long fingers. This is the only keyboard I dont have to look at as I type. I recomend it to anyone without sausage fingers, that seems to be a pattern at Apple, anti-sausage compatibility.

  11. Billy Gee Says:

To Delete on the wireless keyboard (remove character to the right of the cursor) use function (fn) delete. This works for Windows (Explorer and general Windows apps). Not tested under Snow Leopard.
