There was only one Carmagnolle diving suit ever made and it sits, unused, in the Navy museum in Paris. In order to cope with undersea water pressure the helmet looks like a giant insect eye compound lens with 20, small, round, lenses, one of which screws open to allow the wearer some fresh air while being suited up.

I’m pretty sure this suit is where the idea for the iconic “big daddys” from bioshock come from. It pretty much encompasses everything thats iconic about them especially the weird “facial” features and armor plating

    Ya think? :)

This is pretty incredible. I followed the link, and the poorly-translated description of the joints makes them sound genius (if unworkable). Unfortunately, one of the arms does not end in a giant drill.

This is definitely the bouncer helmet idea from Bioshock. Just the bouncer is more hunchback shaped. I love this suit. Might be scary at first but can’t be scarier than a big daddy! Such great technology for the 1880s.

  4. Joel Says:

The big daddy suites look different because they look cooler that way and the big daddy suites were addapted for combat and to be worn by a bigger user of the suite.

It’s a shame that the real thing wasn’t ever used but we may have not been able to look at it right now since you never know what could have happened if it was tested.

seeing this makes me realise how crappy Bioshock’s artwork is in comparison

I’m kinda shocked you could make something inherently awesome like diving suits look lame.

Imagine decontaminating something like this. HOLY SH–

I want one, too bad only one was made, and you can’t buy one in the store. all you got to do is put a drill on it ,an oxygen tank and R-34 tank on the back, work out ALOT and you will have a bigbaddy. most suits wheigh 290 or more
