The landmark Duluth Ariel Lift Bridge, actually began its life as one of the worlds only transporter bridges, which carry items across in a gondola supported by wires from the gantry above. It is nonetheless still a wonderful structure in its more recent incarnation.

    I look out my office window at this bridge. It is a hundred years old, and has 1000 foot freighters going under it almost every day from mid-March till Mid January.
