Kuala Lumpur is a shamefaced rip off of Stanstead airport, but it does have its moments. Such as the pinhole lighting which sparkles off the floor in this great view.

We have used this airport a few times and have found it to be a design that works! We arrive and after a long, but interesting walk it’s on to a train to transfer to the baggage claim. Baggage claim and customs were easy and
transportation to the city was handy. I haven’t been to Stanstead, but if they both work equally well, who cares if it’s a rip off. The airport works, it gives you the feeling of flight and is functional. Domestic travel is just as easy. The staff is very friendly. Shops are the usual stuff and the center hub where you catch the transfer train is very much like a mall.Very well marked with staff around to point you to customs and transfer train. It seems like every country(city) has to have a signature airport, while great to look at ,it seems the passenger is the one who suffers with poor design ,long treks to connecting terminals and baggage claim. The best airports are designed around the passenger first.

[…] This is a list of the worlds most beautiful airport terminals, based upon architectural merit rather than crude size, high tech bravado or structural gymnastics. For that reason the beautifully simple Dalaman terminal in Turkey makes the list, for example, but the design compromised Heathrow Terminal Five, does not. Vote for your faves. KLIA, is vast and confusing. It is too enormous to appreciate fully from the outside. So when you get in you would expect great things (a wow factor)..Not there i am afraid..The main check in area is dull and uninspiring and not very well organised. The journey to the satellites just seems unneccessary somehow. The airport is inappropraitely large, it is too far away from KL. It is not beautiful or practical. Airports are getting way too big and brash. Architecturely they are not meeting the need of modern air travel. KLIA is just another example of showing off. Not good
