A photo by Sanaa showing a family that appear to be underwater. The effect is created by having a glass bottom pool on top of the pool itself.

The pool is number 16 and you get underneath through room number 11 - you go through a small unmarked door, down some stairs and along a dimly lit passageway.

This is an art installation by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich.

He uses a lot of interesting visual tropes in his work.

“family” is singular, not plural.

Craig, “family” is plural, not singular, at least in much of the English-speaking world. Family, crowd, team, etc. are collections of people, and therefore not singular. Sounds funny to yanks, but not to a lot of others!

“Family”, as a collective noun, can be both singular and plural, at least according to the Oxford English Dictionary, with the former more common in the US. So while you’re both correct, the sentence (with “a family”) would possibly read better with a singular (appears) construction.

yo paul: ‘yanks’ are much of the English-speaking world. Also, most of us came here after the Revolutionary War so your pejorative is largely meaningless. Nice try though.

Family is singular. The word conotates a group of people, but more than one family would be families. This is just like, well, group. And team, and school (when refering to the students) and class, etc. Craig is correct and is doesn’t matter where you “yank.”

Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you’re still retarded.
