Actually an AK74u :)
December 17th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
About 15 years ago my company was doing a lot of odd work for unnamed Arabic countries.
As well as wasting gold on kick plates for hospital doors, and 1.5km of gold plated aluminium picture rail,a popular article at the time was the gold plated machine gun.We did AK 47s,UZI`s,all sorts of tacky crap.
Recently,we had the job of replating a load of looted/liberated guns from one of Saddams many armouries, and we recognized our plating on some of them,as well as a bunch of badly done, far eastern electronics gold-very soft, not suitable for guns at all. Its not often we get paid twice for the same job!

The gun in this picture is by no means an AKS-74-U, or a weapon of the AK-74-family at all. It is however an Iraqi version of the Yugoslavian Zastava M92 shortened assault rifle (which again is a shortened licence-built version of the Soviet AKM, which again is a modernized AK-47….pheeew!), and this actual model is called “Tabuk”. These were made in Iraqi State Arsenal factories, and it was produced under license from the Yugoslavian (now Serbian) State Arsenal factory of Zastava in Kragujevac, Yugoslavia. However, this gun does have some minor different features that destract from the original Serbian M92 design, and these differences are the design of the wooden upper and lover front-mounted handguards, the front gas valve outlet (which here is a copy of the system used on the Israeli Galil/ South-African R4, and the Finnish Valmet M62), a slightly longer barrel, a different muzzle brake, and the standard AKM-type rear sight (as opposed to the Zastava M92’s AKS-74-U-type breech-cover-mounted rear sight).
Just by looking at the strong curve of the magazine of the weapon pictured above tells us that this weapon is made for the 7,62×39mm M43g small arms round, as the Kalashnikovs in the AK-74-family were all made to take the smaller (and potentially deadlier, for those unfortunate enough to stand in its way) 5,45×39 “5-n-7″ small arms round, and thus have a slightly less curved magazine.
The Tabuk’s Serbian/Yugoslavian ancestry can be clearly seen by the special angeled Zastava pistolgrip (made of hardened black plastic), and the widened reciever-”bulks” seen under the rear sight.
Unique to the Tabuk and it’s Serbian ancestors is the fact that these guns have a 1,5mm thick reciever, as oppposed to all (at least that I have encountered in Iraq and Bosnia/Kosovo) other stamped-receiver-AK’s, which have a 1mm thick reciever.
These guns surely work, and I have personally been shot at with one of these gold-plated Tabuks. The owner of that particular gun will never be doing that again.
November 6th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Derik you are very wrong it is the Automat Kalashnikov model 102 and it is not 762×39 it is 5.56×45 for someone who act like they know firearms you sure are an idiot you need to get ya shit straight. i knew it was the Ak-102 as soon as i saw it.. look it up you will see that its nothin but a golden AK-102 not a aks-74u or an m92.. tha M92 has a shorter gas chamber and is nothing but a cheap knock-off of the aks-74u and this rifle is an kalashnikov original them iraqis have been usin them forever
November 12th, 2008 at 10:12 am
Nope, Jeff is wrong, Dan Eric is right. It is a 7,62×39 Iraqi Tabuk. They never came in 5,45×39 or 5,56×45. We see ‘em over here in Fallujah on a daily basis. I’m a US Army instructor, and we have 3 of these guns for training the Iraqi police, together with some Serb M92’s and M70’s. None of ‘em are gold plated, however. I’ve also seen one of those .223 Ak-102s, and they are completely different, with plastic furniture and a left-swinging folding stock, not like the underfolder type seen in this pic.
To my knowledge these Iraqi Tabuks were made w the aid of Yugo/Serbia, and this compact version is a further development of the Iraqi Ak, loosely based on the Serb M92.
It seems like you were the idiot here, Jeff.
December 5th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
ACTUALLY IT IS NOT A RUSSIAN AUTOMATIC KALASHNIKOV OR AK 47
IT IS AN SMG
THE AK 74 U GOLD PLATED
IT CAN BE BURST OR AUTOMATIC FIRE…NOT STRONGER THAN THE AK 47
BECAUSE IT IS A 5.56MM AND IS NOT MORE POWERFUL THAN THE AK 47
BUT I PREFER THE M16A2 STANDARD ISSUE FOR THE US ARMY… I LIKE IT BURST
MORE OUTSTANDING WITH LESS RECOIL IS M4 ON SINGLE FIRED OR AUTOMATIC
December 9th, 2008 at 9:58 am
The only reason people are saying that its a 74u is because they’ve seen it as a submachine gun in call of duty 4.
its actually an assault rifle, but this isnt even a 74u.
December 17th, 2008 at 7:20 am
This NO doubt shoots 7.62×39….5.56 and 5.45 mags are more straight than this. I am in the Green zone right now. I printed out this photo and showed it to one of our Iraqi’s and they translated the writing on the lower hand guard. It says, ” This was a gift from the president of Iraq, Sadam Huesain.” I don’t think he would give out a gold plated AK-47 as a gift with writing on it like that unless it was made in Iraq.

January 20th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
Yep, that weapon is definitely an ak74u, NOT an AK47..
February 1st, 2009 at 2:55 pm
how bout you all shut the fuck up, look at the length of the gun and barrel. it is CLEARLY an ak74u, and ak47 is much longer. look it up fags.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:58 pm
no how bout YOU shut the fuck up, its not an ak74u, ak74u doesnt even shoot a 7.62. it shoots a 5.45 and that magazine is defenitly not for 5.45s. maybe it looks a bit shorter than a standard ak47, but it still is one.
February 17th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
I come from Iraq. And I know this is Tabuk mini-karabine. It has 7,62 russian bullets. I have seen it many times in Iraq, and honor guard of Saddam Hussein had Tabuk mini-karabine for cermony service. It is Iraq-made version AK47.
March 10th, 2009 at 12:46 am
it is an AK-47 standard undergolding stock, goldplated sadam, not uncomonn
ur all retards
March 26th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
How come everyone that calls other people “retards” and shit like that in this thread, really can’t spell or write properly? Like this guy above “Ur allslow”, that guy has got to be one of the most illiterate posters I have ever seen. Or that other guy “xxairsofterxx “; just the fact that you like to play gay computergames doesn’t mean that you are an expert on firearms. I’m willing to bet that most of the people that have posted comments in this thread haven’t even seen an AK-47.
Nice to see that at least some of the people out there have common sense, and recognise the gun for what it is; It is (like some have stated) the Tabuk Short Assault Rifle in 7,62 mm russian caliber. It is made in Iraq under license from the ZASTAVA ORUZJE weapons factory in Serbia.
March 31st, 2009 at 9:25 am
it is actully an ak-47 with short barrel and removeable stock
April 2nd, 2009 at 3:33 pm
an ak 47 wt gold sparay paint thats it
June 17th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
yess this is an AK-74u you can tell by the shortened barrel and the foresight
June 19th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
No, this is NOT an AK-74u. There is no such thing as an AK-74u, the shortened version of the AK-74 is called ‘AKS-74-U’, and the ‘AKS-74-U’ has a completely different buttstock, barrel length, magazine, sights, top cover, trunion, upper gas tube, front handguard, flash hider and front gas block. The gun in the pic is a Tabuk Iraqi shorty, 7,62-39 m/m.
June 20th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Можно и по этому вопросу, ведь только в споре зарождается истина. :)
June 22nd, 2009 at 2:25 am
What, you mean it’s not an H&K MP5? That was kickass in Rainbow 6.
That’s an AK47 magazine, not an AK74 magazine. It’s a Yugo front trunnion. It’s a 7.62X39 barrel.
“WEAPONRY OFFICER” is certainly illiterate for an officer. Of course, I’ve never heard of a “Weaponry Officer” in the military, or any police force. And since Dan Erik gave a very detailed and accurate rundown, why are illiterate morons arguing with him? Oh, wait, nevermind that question.
Underfolder AK. Gold and shiny. Sure is tacky.

Okay, I’m no firearms experts and yes, I play Call of Duty 4, but I’m not so stupid to express ignorance. I don’t really mean to offend the gun experts here, but isn’t this gun an AK or an AK style weapon nevertheless? It will probably possess the same realibilty and it is meant to hurt people. I think we are forgetting the picture. The fact that this weapon is covered in gold shows that terrorists and evildoers trust this gun as much as a knight trusts his sword.
I”m no soldier, but is the AK really that tough?
