In order to create musical mashups, its good to have some mashup instruments.

We love the names of some of these, like the the chairello, however our favorites are the amazing musical instruments made by Iner Souster, out of chicken cookers, golf carts, refrigerators, and a violin that is made out of a violin case.

many blog readers will have seen this featured before, however its such an unusual instrument that it has to be part of this list. The Wege house is built so that its actual design creates musical instruments.
According to Iner Souster, he decided he needed somewhere to put his Tommy Gun so made a violin out of the violin case itself.
The Car Music Project are an orchestra that plays music on instruments made out of old car parts. The effect, as it says on their website, ‘is as if someone had re-written the entire history of music’. The instrument shown here is a cello with a sound box made out of an old gas tank.

When the orchestra played in New York, their chosen venue was by the Lincoln Center (ford not Abraham).

There are a bunch of other takes on the classic spooky sci-fi sounding Theramin at this site. This one stands out as being particularly odd.
Dwin Richardson Craig is an 87 year old retired engineer and non retired inventor and jazz player. One of his musical creations, featured here, is a hybrid trumpet and trumbone, which he calls Donald Trumbone - because of its rich sound - boom, ka-ching.
Mobius Operandi are a Bay Area group that perform music on exquisite custom instruments such as this very nice item called a ‘Timbajo’.
Ken Rinaldo is an artist who designs makes and plays instruments such as this one. Its a cello made from a discarded office chair and an old base guitar.
Iner Souster’s Latest five string chicken cooker guitar, is made out of a variety of bit and pieces such as an old film projector base. He scavenged the guitar neck ‘down the local pub’.
Atomic Sonic Products have some of the most interesting and unusual instruments to be found anywhere. An old Stenograph (the phonetic keyboards that court recorders use) is an interesting item in of itself. But when its re-wired up to be a synth, as it is here, then that’s even better.
Made for the Lyle and Sparkleface Band the bikelophone is an old bicyle with electric pickups and a bunch of crazy stuff hanging off it - whatever creates an interesting sound.
Iner Souster really surpassed himself with this bizarre creation. Its made from the extremely unlikely combination of - golf cart, fridge and vacuum cleaner. Check out his website for some other fantastic curiosities.
Iner Souster is soliciting help in finding a name for this contraption which has a body rather like a picolo which extends to bugles, off to the side, rather like rams horns.
