worst keytar (videos)

This year is special, in theory it is the first year since 1982 that keytars have not been mass produced as musical instruments, and that would have been something to celebrate if Guitar Hero and Rock Band hadn’t brought them back, with a vengeance in the form of game guitars.

This list is a warning reminder of what people really look like when they play Rock Band. It features keytars from their earnest debut to parody, to some kind of post-post-modern resolution with self aware but not-really-joking keytarists like Ben Folds.

After the Moog Liberation was introduced in 1980, a variety of performers from Thomas Dolby to Jan Hammer made keytars a staple of 80s music, with Devo being the first to seize the ironic potential. Later weird Croation keytarist Belinda Benekovic became an internet meme and more recently Flight of the Conchords took a jab at a Roland Axis player.

Her are some videos of keytars in action from classic 80s synths to circuit bent toys. Vote for your worst.

Devo were the first band to see the ironic potential of the keytar. In fact they saw its ironic potential as soon as it was invented.
The keytar is a Yamaha SHS-10, and the reason the song is Wham's Last Christmas, is that she isn;t actually playing it. This was the tune used for the SHS-10 demo mode.
Doggy Bounce is the terrible song that becomes a hit when Flight of the Conchords temporary replacement member and keytar player, leaves to form his own band.

After examining the video - the keyboard is a Roland Axis, with the name Roland blanked out. Perhaps they didn't want to offend them.
A song written for the critically acclaimed Canadian porn film, "A Beaver Tale", apparently.
Very unfortunate.
Didn't they used to make motorbikes?
This should, strictly speaking, be disqualified since Dr. Ryman is wearing something the size a concert grand around his neck, rather than a keytar. But the video captures the spirit of the keytar - Unfortunately.
I always suspected he was one of those - a keytard, I mean.
